Array Theatre Productions, a new community theatre group based in The Vale of Glamorgan has been granted the licence to perform ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ in Rhoose from 23rd November – 25th November 2023.

The musical comedy, which features the famous blood-thirsty plant “Audrey II” includes hits such as ‘Skid Row,’ ‘Somewhere That’s Green,’ Suddenly Seymour,’ ‘Feed Me / Git It’ and many more will be staged at Rhoose Community Centre, Stewart Road having been chosen as a “perfect venue” by The Array Theatre Productions team.
“Rhoose Community Centre is the perfect venue to host this iconic musical, the size of the stage and auditorium means we can produce a great quality show here and have enough capacity to make it viable. Our aim is to bring great quality local theatre to Rhoose and this venue offers everything we need. It is easily accessible with great parking options and a train station on the doorstep.” said Array co-founder Ryan Sutton.

Rhoose Community Centre

Ryan is no stranger to Rhoose having worked in the village for over 20 years and was formerly a partner at Rhoose Summer Music, the Rhoose Based annual music festival.
“I’ve always loved Rhoose, I have friends here, have spent a lot of time in the village and have always wanted to produce a show here. There is great community spirit here and community involvement is at the heart of Array Theatre, we want to reach the community with this show and we are also looking for the community to get involved whether that be by appearing in the show or helping us make it happen. We will be looking for help in various areas such as set-building, promotion, engagement or even making the tea.”

In addition to Ryan, the Array team includes Alana Frassinelli, Co-Founder who has been involved in local amateur dramatics since a very young age and brings with her a wealth of experience both on and off stage. Tony & Steve Caley-Burnell will also be joining the Production Team and bring with them an incredible amount of knowledge in set-deisgn, performance and production and Shannon Rees will be making her debut as Choreographer. More members of the Production team will be announced in the coming weeks.

Sponsorship and advertising packages are available for local businesses wishing to support the production. Any local business wishing to get in touch can contact the production team via team@arraytheatre.co.uk or via the Sponsorship Page.

A brief history of Little Shop;
In 1960, Screenwriter Charles B. Griffith took inspiration from “The Reluctant Orchid” story to write The Little Shop of Horrors– a cult classic horror movie about a humble florist who uses a man-eating plant to get rid of his enemies and raise his status. Howard Ashman became enamored with the film’s characters and irreverent tone. Years later, Ashman worked with the composer Alan Menken to bring the fun of the campy classic to the musical stage. The show premiered in May of 1982 and after just 24 performances in the  98-seat WPA Theatre, the show moved to the much bigger Orpheum Theatre, where eager audiences enjoyed a run of over 2,000 performances. The show toured all over the nation and beyond, bringing man-eating plant-based mayhem to London’s West End and Sydney’s Theatre Royal within three years of its New York premiere. Since then, the phenomenon that is Little Shop has seen a film adaptation and a Broadway run, and has arguably become the most popular horror comedy rock musical of all time.
